Examples:
Advance
Food Company Distribution Center
The
distribution center is refrigerated using a computer
controlled, single stage -20 degree Fahrenheit ammonia
system for the -10 degree Fahrenheit warehouse and a
single stage +20 degree Fahrenheit system for the 35
degree Fahrenheit dock. A penthouse is used to enclose
the evaporators and provide easy access for
maintenance. A swing compressor was provided to back
up either system.
The
storage freezer provides 5 levels of storage in
flow-thru and select racks to accommodate Advance
Food's various products. A total of 8,410 pallet
positions are available in the freezer. The 35 degree
dock area is 70' in depth to provide efficient staging
for shipping and receiving product. All of the floors
in the dock and freezer were finished with a dry shake
hardener which provided a denser surface with
increased abrasion and impact resistance while
enhancing the flatness of the floor. This resulted in
a durable floor well suited for high stack forklift
traffic.

Oakland
Food Processing Plant
Gleeson Constructors, L.L.C. started with a 250,000 s.f. existing
kill plant that was sitting empty for thirteen years
in Oakland, Iowa and nine months later, completed the
remodeling of 200,000 s.f. The Owner was producing
sausage patties and round bacon.
The
200,000 s.f. remodeled area was a Design / Build
effort between Gleeson Constructors, L.L.C. and OSI
Industries, Inc. The key features of this facility was
the flow of product through the existing multistory
and design of new utilities for future expansion for
additional product lines. Design included mechanical,
electrical, refrigeration, structural and
architectural.

Osceola
Foods Smoked Meats Plant
One
of the key features of this plant is the clean room
concept. An interstitial space was constructed above
the production areas to enclose all utility lines thus
eliminating any horizontal pipe runs in these rooms.
Also, an additive was used in the concrete to reduce
the growth of bacteria on the floor.
Penthouse
refrigeration units were used so the evaporators were
out of the room and easier to clean. Duct sox were
used to evenly distribute the refrigerated air at low
velocity to maintain colder room temperatures in the
room without sacrificing employee comfort.
Another
key feature consists of the programmable blast chill
cabinets for the ham and bacon. The temperature, the
air flow and direction are computer controlled. Menus
were then set up for each of the various products to
minimize chill times. The user friendly, state of the
art computer system was also used to monitor and
control all building services including lighting,
makeup air systems, security, refrigeration, and smoke
houses.
